Enabling OpenJdk with Chrome/Firefox on Fedora 18

Recently I re-installed Fedora 18 on my laptops, one thing I did notice was OpenJdk (Open Java Development Kit, the free implementation of the Java Platform) comes packaged by default with Fedora 18. However one thing that doesn’t is the web plugin. Although Java is now becoming well outdated on the web front, quite a few of small applications such as the IBM Bladcenter KVMs I use and my hacked up network camera monitoring system using motion all use Java.

So by default Fedora 18 has the java-1.7.0-openjdk package already installed, however what’s missing is the icedtea-web plugin to integrated it into your browsers such as Chrome or Firefox. So anyway this fix or tip is real quick:

sudo yum install icedtea-web

Hit refresh, and walah :)
